He was chosen to be the director of the RIKEN Research Laboratory of Plant Physiology from 1970 to 1979, and served as the honorary invited director from 1979 until his death. He was the vice president of International Association of Photobiologists from 1976 to 1980 and was the president of the Japan Optical Society from 1981 to 1983. In 1980 the Medal with Purple Ribbon was awarded by the Japanese Government to him for his contribution to spectrophotometric analysis of biological materials. [Pg.866]
