One of the most-voiced concerns surrounding homeschooling includes a word so overused that it has almost lost its meaning socialization. While researching this book, I typed What does socialization mean into a well-known search engine. Of course I knew what the word meant, but I wanted to learn more about what the rest of the world thought it meant. [Pg.38]

As with the puppy, the socialization of a child is best achieved when the child is exposed to a variety of experiences, people, and philosophies. A child can be taught at school, and can socialize, but true socialization is an ongoing process that often occurs outside the brick and mortar of institutional walls. [Pg.38]

There are many opportunities for your child to interact with peers through sports and athletics. Some of the more obvious opportunities present themselves in community baseball/softball, basketball, soccer, and football leagues. If your child is too old for these leagues, check into some of the special leagues formed for older children. [Pg.39]
