The downstream process is an integral part of any bioprocess, and it needs a keen focus for economical product recovery. In the case of lA, it can be easily crystallized via filtration at lower pH values, but this strategy fails to separate the by-product associated with lA, hence decreasing the final product quality. Further, certain organic acids, such as itatartaric acid, tend to colorize the white lA crystals or prevent polymerization reactions in corresponding... [Pg.194]

Originally itaconic acid was produced chemically by the pyrolysis of dtric add. The treatment results in water loss converting dtric add to aconitate. Subsequent decarboxylation of the latter gives two isomers, itaconic add and dtraconic add. The process was not very successful, partiy because sucdnate and itatartaric adds were also produced. [Pg.138]
