Isofolic acid

Antibacterial assays were carried out with isofolic acid (IV.155) against S.faecium and L. casei in the presence of 5.4 nM and 1.1 nM folic acid, respectively [137], The IC50 against S. faecium was foimd to be 5.4 nM, while that against L. casei was 200 nM. The comparatively low activity of IV.155 against L. casei was unexpected, in view of the fact that this organism is generally the more sensitive one to classical antifolates of the 2,4-diamino-pteridine type.
