Our investigations on species of this family have, as a first, short term objective, the isolation, purification and identification of secondary metabolites of different parts of the plant. We studied ten species Virola calophylta, V. calophylloidea, V, carinata K elongata, V, sebifera Iryanthera laevis, L pavonis, /. tricomis, Compsoneura atopa and Osteophloeum sulcatum). Some of the results of these studies are given below.
