Ionization of Benzene by Rare Gas Reactants

An illustration of the different spectra which can be produced by chemical ionization using different reactants is afforded by a study of the spectra of benzene produced by different rare gases. This is also an illustration of the initial production of odd-electron ions by a chemical ionization technique. The rare gases used are Xe, Kr, Ar, and Ne, and they have recombination energies ranging from 12.1 to 21.6 so electron
