Ionic associations/equilibria temperature dependence

The existence of such anion effects also implies that, if one wishes to do temperature studies, one cannot simply sit at a constant ionic strength and obtain meaningful activation parameters, because the equilibrium constant involving the association with the anion will also change, of course, as one varies the temperature. Thus, it is necessary to resolve out each rate constant at each temperature and then do the temperature dependencies on individual rate constants.

The 1960s brought two major advances in the discipline of ion energetics and stmcture. The development of high-pressure mass spectrometer ion sources led by Kebarle and co-workers allowed the measurement of equilibrium constants for gas-phase ionic systems at well-specified temperatures and, from temperature-dependent studies, the enthalpy and entropy changes associated with gas phase equilibria. These concepts provided the foundation for current studies of molecular recognition in the gas phase. 

The differences between initiators are given by different participation of the propagation, transamidation (base-catalyzed) and side reactions that depend predominantly on temperature, concentration, the type of initiator, the type and character of the growth centers, and by the complex ionic equilibrium, including the dissociation, association, change of the permittivity of the reaction medium, and so on.
