Iodide , solubility

Bromides and iodides Soluble in Insoluble in organic solvents... [Pg.129]

Addition of mercury(II) chloride solution to a solution of an iodide gives a scarlet precipitate of mercury(II) iodide, soluble in excess of iodide ... [Pg.349]

The hexahydrate is red hexagonal crystals density 2.90 g/cm loses water at 130°C giving anhydrous iodide soluble in water, ethanol, acetone, chloroform and ether, forming colored solutions, (while the aqueous solution is red helow 20°C and green above this temperature the salt forms blue solution in ethanol, chloroform and ether). [Pg.244]

In this way sodium iodide, soluble in the solution of cyanogen iodide in ether [complex formation of NaI2(CN)], is removed. This complex is avoided in the procedure by Ketelaar and Kruyer 2 in which chlorine is used. The method adopted here is faster and simpler and gives almost the same yield of purified cyanogen iodide. [Pg.31]

Lead acetate Potassium dichromate and concentrated sulfuric acid Sodium nitrite Copper sulfate Mercury (II) chloride Yellow precipitate of lead iodide soluble in excess hot water Liberation of iodine Liberation of iodine Brown mixed precipitate Scarlet precipitate of mercury (II) iodide... [Pg.532]

Almost insoluble in water freely soluble in aqueous solutions of iodide. Soluble in benzene, carbon disulfide, ethanol, ethyl ether, cycohexane, carbon tetrachloride, chloroform, glacial acetic acid, and glycerol oils.1... [Pg.312]

Chlorine is more potent an oxidant than is bromine but less so than fluorine (Clifford, 1961a). Thus, chlorine is able to oxidize both bromide and iodide ions to Br2 and I2, respectively, whereas fluorine oxidizes chloride, bromide, and iodide to their corresponding halogens. The oxidizing ability of chlorine is the basis for the starch-iodide test for chlorine. Here, a mixture of potassium iodide, soluble starch, and zinc chloride produces a blue-violet color in the presence of chlorine. Unfortunately, and like many spot tests, this is a nonspecific test and gives a positive result with many oxidants, for example, bromine. [Pg.23]

White to pale yellow crystals. M.p. 15-16°C, At room temperature, explosive conversion to a brick-red, solid material. Decomposed by water to HCN, HNCS and HgSO. When SCN is added to an aqueous (SCN)g solution, pale yellow (SCN)3 is formed. More electronegative than liberates Tig from iodides. Soluble in alcohol, ether, CSg and CCl. ... [Pg.673]

Iodide ions yield a red precipitate of mercuric iodide soluble in excess of the reagent by formation of the colorless tetraiodomercurate(II) (mercuritetraiodide) complex ... [Pg.552]

According to Le Chatelier s principle, an equilibrium mixture responds to a forced increase in the concentration of one of its reactants by shifting in the direction in which that reactant is consumed. In the lead(II) iodide solubility... [Pg.834]
