Introduction Lighting the Way

In October 2007, the Inter Academy Council (IAC) published a report on the road the world needs to take to attain a sustainable energy future [2]. The IAC represents the 150 science and engineering academies of this world and the report was written upon the request of Brazil and China (http //www. interacademycouncil.net). The co-chairman for this project was the 1997 Nobel laureate for physics, and current, as of 2009, Secretary of State, Steven Chu from Stanford University. [Pg.299]

The title of the report is very suggestive Lighting the Way and is a nice play of words [2]. But using sunlight was not the only recommendation. The recommendations were as follows  [Pg.299]

Capture C02 from coal and other fossil fuel utilization [Pg.299]

Extract energy from the sun and other renewable resources [Pg.299]

Invite the United Nations to examine the use of nuclear power on security and waste [Pg.299]
