Interviewing short list

Some of the candidate tollers practices, records and documents can not be assessed using only a questionnaire form. A site visit to one or more of the short-listed candidate tollers is usually indicated. This is especially helpful if an unfamiliar toller is competing against a toller that is currently being used. Candidate tollers can use the information in this section to prepare for a site interview when one is requested. 

Interviewing a large number of candidates on any reasonable time frame whilst continuing to do justice to all the candidates is impossible. Drawing up a short list of candidates from the many applicants produced by the advertisement of the job is essential. 

What then is the most appropriate size of a short list Well four is a very good number but it is usually considered to be reasonable to interview between four to six people in one day. If all the preparation work has been done well and there are a good number of applicants, this number should be enough to satisfy a single vacancy. When recruiting several people for similar jobs, it is sensible to have some multiple of the above figures, and to spread the interviewing over more than one day. 

You have interviewed patients, nurses and doctors to get hold of their needs, and realize that the new system will require something different, it will be hygienic - also when used by a patient who is not too handy, it should not be too painful because more injections are required, it will deliver a small amount, accurately dosed, also when applied by the not-too-handy patient. Finally it will be carried around by the patient, with a store of insulin sufficient for some time, say a few days or a week. These items are summarized in the short list of specihcations in Figure 8-9.
