Interrelationship between Different Lipid Categories

Moreover, acyl CoA is a key metabolite involving the majority of the synthesis, degradation, and remodeling activities in all of the categories of lipids. The availability of acyl CoA can directly influence the synthesis and remodeling of these lipids, thereby changing the lipid profiles. It is unfortunate that due to the differentially compartmental distribution of acyl CoA and very dynamic alteration in its content in individual compartments as well as in the entire cell, it is hard to interpret the lipidomics data by acyl CoA levels alone. 

Taken together, interpretation of lipidomics data should not only extensively consider different pathways within a network of an individual lipid category but also expand the influence from other categories of lipids (i.e., consider the interrelationship between the networks). In order to do well on this, it is always important to conduct comprehensive analysis of cellular lipidomes, including individual molecular species and regioisomers.
