Interleukin redundancy

Other receptor-mediated toxicides may result either from species differences in receptor sub-units or from the occurrence of common sub-units across receptors. The latter is referred to as redundancy, and can result in signal cross-talk between mediators. GM-CSF, for example, can inactivate interleukin-5 (IL-5) in vitro by sequestering common 3 chain (Figure 6.1).
