In that regime, IMS resolving power is not influenced by interconversion dynamics and Equation 1.23 applies. However, measured fi corresponds to no particular geometry and extracting structural informalion from the data requires averaging over a representative geometry ensemble using Equation 1.25. 

Reactions represent the dynamic aspect of chemistry, the interconversion of chemical compounds. Chemical reactions produce the compounds that are sold by industry and that play a big role in maintaining the standard of living of our society they transform the food that we take up in our body into energy and into other compounds and they provide the energy for surviving in a hostile environment and the energy for a large part of our transportation systems. 

Calixarenes are cyclophane-type molecules, in which at least four aromatic units are joined via methylene or related groups [9]. It is known that calix[4]arenes with hydroxy groups in the 2-position normally prefer a conelike conformation, however, depending on the substituents a more or less rapid dynamic interconversion with three possible partial cone conformations is possible (Fig. 1) [9, 10].

An understanding of these LR dynamics requires both biological and mathematical insight. In this chapter we define these biological processes in terms of RG mechanisms and consider whether these processes reflect receptor in different states of activity. Next we develop a mathematical description to account for at least six separate processes (1) ligand association, (2) rapid ligand dissociation, (3) slower dissociation, (4) internalization, and (5 and 6) two different Interconversions among receptor forms.
