Interactions of Light with a Chemical Compound

Many compounds are colored, as they absorb light in the visible range. However, a lot more compounds absorb light not in the visible but in the ultraviolet region. 

Such a compound, though it absorbs light, appears to human eyes as colorless, as the absorption would not disturb the visible range.
