Inter-fiber pore size

In this study, 3-D evaluation of data obtained from sub-pm-CT measurements was performed for characterizing industrially produced MDF the main focus of this investigation was to achieve a high resolution. For such evaluation, morphological operations were used in order to determine the proportion and the distribution of the sum of inter- and intra-particle pores on the one side and of fiber cell wall material on the other side in the panel. Additionally, it is of great interest to see if and how different sub-volume sizes influence the resulting pore and cell wall material size distribution and which sub-volume size is representative for the whole board. Finally, the correlations between pore size and cell wall material size proportion and the local density at a certain position in the cross-section were investigated. [Pg.61]
