9 Considerations of Planning and Scheduling into the Design of Supply Chains 

In general terms, the satisfactory management of a company s business matters requires the joint and direct appraisal of the results of the decisions taken at various levels. This fact involves significant integration of multiple planning facets in non-conventional manufacturing networks and in multi-site systems. Financial matters are typically disregarded when SC operational decisions are addressed. 

The aim of this chapter is to demonstrate that the integration of decision-making in businesses leads to significant added value. This chapter continues and extends the control strategy presented in Chap. 7 to more realistic and complex situations. Its ability to handle incidents that arise in the SC by bringing visibility between both, the SC and plant levels, is again demonstrated.
