Insulation melamine-formaldehyde

Some of the chemicals mentioned above and others, such as chlorinated mbber or paraffin, antimony trioxide, calcium carbonate, calcium borate, pentaerythrithol, alumina trihydrate, titanium dioxide, and urea—melamine—formaldehyde resin, may be used to formulate fire retardant coatings. Many of these coatings are formulated in such a way that the films intumesce (expand) when exposed to fire, thus insulating the wood surface from further thermal exposure. Fire retardant coatings are mostly used for existing constmction. [Pg.329]

Glass-reinforced melamine-formaldehyde laminates are valuable because of their good heat resistance (they can be used at temperatures up to 200°C) coupled with good electrical insulation properties including resistance to tracking. [Pg.688]

By means of chemical reactions thermosetting plastics form three-dimensional structures. Ammonia and methanol are starting points for amino-resins, which are therefore syngas derivatives. Urea-formaldehyde resins are used in particle board (chipboard) and plywood manufacture UF-foam is also widely used for cavity wall insulation in the U.K. Melamine-formaldehyde resins are possibly more familar from the dinnerware and heat-resistant wood finishes produced. [Pg.373]
