INSIGHT INTO Batteries

While during the NATO-CARWC, the session on metal-air batteries featured other important contributions, it is, perhaps, by coincidence that only presenters from the former Eastern Block submitted their papers for this volume. In this regard, the editors wish to note, that papers below may be of special interest to the western reader, as they offer a rather unique insight into the science and application of the metal-air battery systems from the... [Pg.108]

Impedance spectroscopy (IS) is a measurement of the conductive and dielectric properties of electroactive systems over a wide range of frequencies. Its popularity and applicability has increased dramatically over the past 25 years with the advent of fast-response potentiostats and frequency response analyzers. Impedance spectroscopy has been applied extensively in electrochemistry, especially in battery and sensor research, and it has been used to study active transport in biological membranes. Skin impedance has also been investigated with IS, but many of these studies attempted to correlate impedance with hydration and provided no insight into the mechanism of charge transport. More recent studies have used IS to elucidate the pathways of ion transport through skin, with special emphasis on understanding the mechanism... [Pg.215]

An overview of the different concepts involved in electrochemistry, spanning (torn basic theory (thermodynamics, transport and electrode kinetics, etc.) to the main applications (batteries corrosion, electrosynthesis and sensors). In addition, it covers the research methods used in electrochemistry, as well as giving an insight into organic electrochemistry. For master s degree level and engineering schools. A dozen practical experiments are described in brief, with a few problems to solve (corrections provided on the website). [Pg.338]
