Inner harpooning

Qearly there exists a complementarity between those channels initiated by outer harpooning (ground state and chemi-ions) and by inner harpooning (chemiluminescence) high cross sections for one type of process implies low cross sections for the other and vice versa. This has been confirmed in experiments with spin-orbit selected Ca( Pj) [21] and with aligned Ca( P) [8] beams. 

The present model shows some success with respect to the taxonomy of the reaction channels, the interpretation of the excitation fimctions in terms of outer and inner harpooning, a qualitative idea of the shapes of the relevant PES s, and last, but not least, with respect to the natural way by which it allows one to deal with steric and alignment problems. An advantage of the model is that it can be quantified and extended to the full dimension of the problem - a program which is currently under development at the University of Toronto. 

This will be seen in Section 3.1 to be in accord with inner and outer harpooning, respectively.
