Industrial Uses for Glycerol

Saponification, hydrolysis and esterification of vegetable oils to release fatty acids for the oleochemical uses detailed above, results in production of glycerol as a by-product. Glycerol is an important platform molecule in its own right, with numerous industrial uses (see Chapter 6 for more information).
