Inductance spark

Minimum Igniting Current (MIC) Ratio The ratio of the minimum current required from an inductive spark discharge to ignite the most easily igni table mixture of a gas or vapor, divided by the minimum current required from an inductive spark discharge to ignite methane under the same test conditions.

This reaction begins at about 600° C., and at 900° C. some ten per cent, of the CO is oxidised to C02 (Naumann and Pistor, Ber., 1885, 18, 2894). Buff and Hofmann (J. Chem. Soc., 1860, 12, 282) discovered the fact that steam oxidises CO when induction sparks are passed through the mixed gases...
