Incorporation during fiber spinning

In principle, the functionalization strategies can be subdivided into methods allowing (1) direct incorporation of the functionality during spinning and (2) postfunctionalization of the fibers after mesh production.

The antimicrobial activ component of Sanitized MB PA 99-57 is ceramic based silver. The product is incorporated into the fiber made of polyamide PA 6 during the melt spinning process. The resulting fabric was tested according to the Japanese test method JIS L 1902 1998 (E) in the treated and unwashed state and after 5, 10 and 20 washings according to ISO 105/C01 at 40°C. The detailed results are given in table 7 and show the excellent antimicrobial performance. 

Several types of dyes or colorants do not "fit" logically into the other classifications and have been included in this special classification. Disperse dyes are small polar dye molecules which can be used to dye thermoplastic fibers such as triacetate, nylon, polyester, and other synthetic fibers. Solvent dyes are dyes which are specially formulated so that they can be applied from solvents other than water. Pigments are not dyes at all, but rather colorants that must be incorporated in the fiber during spinning or fixed on the surface of the fiber by use of a polymer adhesive. Natural dyes are complex mixtures derived from natural sources which can be placed in a number of the above classifications.
