Complete success, however, was not attained in the initial version. The limiting factor was the development of overcurvature in the formed components. This was shown to be due to an incompatibility strain which arises between the formed and not-yet-formed regions on any one pass through the forming machine. Incompatible strains of Pseudomonas pisi appear to be immobilised in tobacco leaf tissue by adherence and this is followed by engulfment by cuticle-like material secreted by plant cells. The compatible tobacco pathogen P. tobaci does not produce such a response. Suppose that a thin film is bonded to one surface of a substrate of uniform thickness hs- It will be assumed that the substrate has the shape of a circular disk of radius R, although the principal results of this section are independent of the actual shape of the outer boundary of the substrate. For the time being, the mismatch strain is assumed to be an isotropic extension or compression in the plane of the interface, and the substrate is taken to be an isotropic elastic solid with elastic modulus Es and Poisson ratio Vs the subscript s is used to denote properties of the substrate material. Spinels. There are limited experimental data on uranium and thorium partitioning between magnetite and melt (Nielsen et al. 1994 Blundy and Brooker 2003). Unfortunately, fumes can drift out of a hood for a variety of reasons and aerosols will drift out. Hoods strain heating and air conditioning systems by consuming vast quantities of room air, they are incompatible with controlled atmospheres, they provide no shielding with the sash up, and their protection is degraded by turbulent flows if they are located near doors or in areas that have heavy pedestrian traffic.
