Impinging application

Air impingement is commonly employed for drying sheets, film, thin slabs, and coatings. Another application in which it is used is as a secondary heat source on drum and can diyers (see Fig. 12-46). 

Fluidized-bed opposed-jet mills Hosokawa Micron Powder Systems Div.) differ from the Majac mill in that powder is not fed into the jets, but the jets impinge into a chamber mich contains suspended powder. The powder is entrained into the jets. This ehminates wear on the nozzles, and reduces contamination. Otherwise, construction and appheations are similar to the Majac mill. The fluidized-bed level is maintained a few inches above the jets. The Fluidized-bed mill is available in 13 sizes with air volumes ranging from. 50 to 11,000 mVh. One application is for toner grinding. 

Application of heat to a flammable liquid (e.g. due to radiation or flame impingement in a fire, or because of hot work ) can generate a flammable vapour-air mixture. 

PM Impingement-plate tower collection efficiencies range from 50 to 99 percent, depending upon the application. This type of scrubber relies almost exclusively on inertial impaction for PM collection. Therefore, collection efficiency decreases as particle size decreases. Short residence times will also lower scrubber efficiency for small particles. Collection efficiencies for small particles (< 1 fim in aerodynamic diameter) are low for these scrubbers hence, they are not recommended for fine PM control.

The efficiency of this type of unit varies, and is a function of the effectiveness of the impingement baffling arrangement. About 70% of separator applications can use the line-type unit the other 30% require the vessel construction. The preference of the designer and problems of the plant operator are important in the final selection of a unit to fit a separation application. 

Pitting may be defined as a limiting case of localised attack in which only small areas of the metal surface are attacked whilst the remainder is largely unaffected, and this definition is applicable irrespective of the mechanism involved dezincification, crevice corrosion and impingement attack can all result in pitting, although the mechanisms of these three processes are quite different.
