Immunologic senescence

The immunological senescence in mice and its reversal by coenzyme Qio, further supporting its role as a potent inununomodulating agent, has been discussed previously. For example, the increase in resistance to the development of spontaneous and transplanted tumors in protein-deficient animals has been ascribed to the depression in synthesis of blocking antibodies which shield tumor cells from cytotoxic T cells (Jose and Good, 1971). In addition, increases in suppressor cell populations have been linked to immunological senescence (Roder et al., 1978). It is reasonable to speculate that certain suppressor cell populations are nutritionally sensitive.
