Immune system upregulation

Jacot, A. et al., Juvenile immune system activation induces a costly upregulation of adult immunity in field crickets Gryllus campestris, Proc. Royal. Soc. London, series B, 272, 63, 2005. [Pg.381]

Psoriasis is a disease of the immune system that involves T lymphocytes. The etiology and pathogenesis of psoriasis results from complex communications that cause activation of T lymphocytes and trafficking to the skin. Further reactivation causes inflammation and overproduction of skin, resulting in lesions and plaques. In psoriatic skin, there is an upregulation of intracellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) on endothelium and keratinocytes. [Pg.113]

Upregulation of Lsc in the immune system is discussed in Section IV. It is anticipated that future efforts will reveal many other inputs for regulation of expression of the RGS-RhoGEFs and the impact of this modulation on a variety of signaling paradigms. [Pg.213]

The potential modulation of immune system responses by GMP is also discussed in the article by Brody (2000). A number of studies have shown that GMP stimulates the proliferation of normal human B-lymphocytes, but not of T-lymphocytes. This would indicate that GMP upregulates the humoral immune system with a subsequent increase in the production of IgA antibodies, in particular. Moreover, GMP appears to specifically affect the production of various cytokines. It is clear that further research is required in this field so as to elucidate the significance of GMP for the immune system. [Pg.193]
