Immune system iron-containing enzymes

Unlike the COXs, which are active in most body cells, LOX enzymes are primarily active in cells of the immune system. LOXs are enzymes that catalyze the stereospecific incorporation of molecular oxygen into PUFAs [23]. The LOXs are iron-containing enzymes, and so far five families of LOXs have been reported, namely, 5-, 8-, 12-, 13-, and 15-LOXs (Fig. 3.5). [Pg.137]
