Image visualizations qualitative analysis

Microscopic methods (TEM, SEM, and OM) provide valuable visual qualitative information on size and shape, but are mot very good for quantitative analysis due to low particle count and particle overlap (due to the presence of agglomerates and aggregates). Quantification can be improved by optimizing sample preparation techniques to increase dispersion quality and by obtaining and processing multiple images. [Pg.392]

Quantitative and qualitative information can be obtained from CSLM images. The results of CSLM analysis are z series or stacks of 2D images taken at a known z axis distance. Commercial software can be used to generate 3D reconstructions. There are several ways to visualize these 3D reconstructions two of the most common ones are the following ... [Pg.60]

The classical approach to species identification is that of qualitative morphological and quantitative morphometric analysis. Thus, taxonomists perform the identification task by visual observation and measurement of morphological and morphometric features (i.e. the colour of feathers, the shape of wings, the distance between the eyes, the angle between two veins). A natural way to automate the traditional taxonomic ways of species identification by visual observation and measurement is to employ methods of image analysis. Furthermore, since taxonomic descriptions rely on morphological and morphometric features, a feature-based approach seems appropriate. [Pg.116]
