There are essentially three groups of proteins actively expressed by neutrophils  

Several experimental approaches can be utilised to measure biosynthesis or determine if a particular process requires active transcription or translation  

Neutrophil priming Regulation during inflammatory activation 

mRNA levels may increase, but a second stimulus may be required before this message is translated into active protein.
