Hydrosilanes unsaturated hydrocarbons

The hydrocarboxylation of activated unsaturated hydrocarbons with 002 is an estabhshed methodology in organic chemistry to yield either a,P- (for alkynes), P,y-unsaturated a-branched (for aUenes and 1,3 alkadienes), or a-branched carboxyhc acid derivatives (for styrenes)/ but requires the stoichiometric use of reductants (i.e., AlEt3, hydrosilanes, RMgX) or... 

Polycarbosilanes may also be prepared using difunctional hydrosilanes (58) and difunctional unsaturated organic hydrocarbons [i.e., dienes (59) or diynes]. For example, Zhou and Weber found that if R= ( 112)4- and R =-(CH2)g-, carefiil control of reaction stoichiometry gives the polymer, [Me2Si(CH2)g]n (60) with Mn —30,000 (Scheme 17). Similar reactions have been carried out by Tsumura et al.
