Hydrogenation of Substituted 1, 2-Alkadienes

The reaction of 1,2-butadiene with hydrogen and with deuterium has been followed on palladium ° and nickel - ° catalysts, with results that are summarised in Table 8.3. Those for the two palladium catalysts differ somewhat, e.g.

Allenic dienes having four different substituents possess chirality, as noted above the various possible modes of adsorption and the structures of products resulting from their hydrogenation have been explored.
