Hydrogen discharge lamp

High voltage hydrogen discharge lamps which give continuous radiation in the ultra-violet can be constructed quite simply and elaborate designs are unnecessary for many purposes. A very simple... [Pg.82]

Kondratiev investigated the photochemical oxidation of carbonyl sulfide from room temperature to 100 °C and found the major products to be CO and SO2. Very little solid product was formed. In his experiments, the OCS was dissociated into CO and S by means of a hydrogen discharge lamp. The atomic sulfur formed in the primary process abstracted another S atom from OCS to form CO and S2. The only role of oxygen in the system was, according to Kondratiev, reaction with the S2 thus formed. The complete mechanism he postulated was... [Pg.59]

The photolysis of dimethyl and diethyl ethers in the gas phase was first studied by Harrison and Lake (172) using a hydrogen discharge lamp. They reported the formation of formaldehyde from dimethyl ether, and ethylene, acetaldehyde, and formaldehyde from diethyl ether. [Pg.91]

NH3. The single photon dissociation of NH3 between 185 and 214 nm has been studied extensively and has been shown to result in predominantly NH2(X 5,)+H. DiStefano et al. have shown that photodissociation of NH3 using a hydrogen discharge lamp results in a weak visible emission which they have assigned as NH2( ... [Pg.101]

The transition from n = 3 to = 2 gives rise to a spectral line at 656.3 nm called the hydrogen atom alpha line (Ha). The Ha line is easily observed in the emission from a hydrogen discharge lamp as a red line, but it is not easily observed in the laboratory in absorption ( = 2 to = 3) because so few hydrogen atoms populate the n = 2 level at room temperature that the line is too weak to detect (Exercise 20E). [Pg.375]
