Hydrogen cyanide inhalation hazard

Clear, colorless to light yellow liquid. Pure material is practically odorless but usually has an odor of bitter almond due to residual hydrogen cyanide. This material is hazardous through inhalation, skin absorption, penetration through broken skin, and ingestion, and produces local skin/eye impacts. Forms cyanide in the body. [Pg.345]

Hydrogen cyanide is extremely toxic hy ingestion, inhalation, skin absorption, and all routes of exposure. An oral dose of 50 mg could be lethal to humans (Patnaik, P. 1999. A Comprehensive Guide to the Hazardous Properties of Chemical Substances, 2nd ed.. New York John Wiley). Symptoms from acute poisoning include labored breathing, shortness of breath, paralysis, unconsciousness, and respiratory failure. Lower doses can cause headache, nausea and vomiting. Oral LDsoin mice is 3.7 mg/kg. Amyl nitrite is an effective antidote. [Pg.366]

Hazards Handle 99% anhydrous hydrazine with care. Never distill it in the presence of air, and keep it out of contact with strong oxidizers. Wear gloves, and use proper ventilation when handling cyanogen bromide. Cyanogen bromide is highly poisonous, and inhalation of vapors, or skin absorption can be fatal toxic effects are similar to hydrogen cyanide. [Pg.270]

HYDROGEN CYANIDE, aqueous sdutioa with not more 20% hydrogen cyanide (When Inhalation Hazard" is on a package or shipping paper.) 500 0.2 1.4 500 0.3 2.2... [Pg.835]

Exposure to cyanides can be especially hazardous and requires an urgent response if gaseous hydrogen cyanide is inhaled or soluble cyanide compounds are ingested. Inhalation of dusts of cyanide compounds or skin absorption of these compounds is less hazard-... [Pg.172]
