Hydrogen bonding chromatographic studies

A large number of polymers imprinted with A -protected amino acids have been prepared and studied for their chromatographic behaviour in organic mobile phases [17,18,47,72,131-133]. In most cases they have been prepared using a poorly hydrogen bonding diluent, sueh as chloroform [47,131] or acetonitrile [18,72], and... 

Some optically active cationic and racemic anionic complexes were examined to elucidate the mechanism of chiral recognition of cations and anions capable of forming hydrogen bonds [313]. The chromatographic study showed that enantiomers of some anionic complexes form favourable ion pairs with cationic A-complexes (Table 31).

The chromatographic system studied by Aerts is exactly the same as that evaluated by Dappen, Karfunkel and Leusen [18]. Using 10,000 configurations, Aerts was able to correctly predict the retention order and, depending upon the method used to compute separation factors, obtain fair to excellent results.
