Goldman, A. et al.. Fiber laser intracavity absorption spectroscopy of ammonia and hydrogen cyanide in low pressure hydrocarbon flames, Chem. Phys. Lett., 423, 147, 2006. [Pg.12]

The earliest experiments with lasers in absorption spectroscopy were performed with the high-gain infrared line X = 3.39p of the He-Ne laser the first gas laser Several authors Miscovered that this laser line is absorbed by many hydrocarbon molecules, causing a vibrational-rotational transition in a band which belongs to the excitation of a C-H stretching vibration . ... [Pg.12]

Infrared diode laser spectroscopy has been used for the measurement of hydrocarbon and CO concentrations in exhaust (13, 14, 15). The adsorption path length, and thus the absorption cell volume, required for hydrocarbon measurement is rather large, limiting the time-resolution of the measurement. The absorption path length required for CO measurement, however, is relatively short and approximately equal to the diameter of a standard exhaust pipe. This allows CO to be measured with high time-resolution by an infrared laser beam passed through an... [Pg.66]

Direct detection of DPC is made by time-resolved EPR spectroscopy. In this method, DPC is first generated by photolysis of 30 in a hydrocarbon matrix at 16 K and is excited by a 465-nm laser, which corresponds to a T-T absorption of the To state of DPC. The transient triplet spectrum of the species having a decay rate of 160 ns at 16 K is assigned to the EPR spectrum of DPC. The ZFS parameters are determined by computer simulation to be D = 0.201 m and E = 0.0085 cm The D values observed by different methods are essentially identical. [Pg.437]

Silylenes are short-lived intermediates, and their detection requires fast methods such as ultraviolet (UV)24 or laser-induced fluorescence spectroscopy.25 The characteristic absorption maxima in the UV-visible spectra of these species, which are assigned to n - p transitions of electrons at the silicon atom, were used as a fingerprint to prove the occurrence of silylenes in matrices or solution. In addition, these transient species, which under normal conditions are too short lived to be observed by a slow detection method such as infrared (IR) spectroscopy, can be isolated in inert hydrocarbon or noble gas matrices, thus allowing the accurate measurement of their IR spectra. [Pg.11]

How far carbocation chemistry has evolved from the old solvolysis days is demonstrated by two recent stmcture determinations the IR spectrum of the nonclassical CHs cation has been measured by solvating this unusual species with molecular hydrogen in the gas phase. This slows down the ultrafast fluxional process which so far prevented the recording of vibrational spectra. The cluster ions CH5" (H2)n (n = 1, 2, 3), after mass selection by an ion trap, were then subjected to IR laser spectroscopy/quadrupol mass spectrometry which ultimately yielded the IR absorption. [40] And the benzene cation, formed by removal of one electron from the parent hydrocarbon was shown to possess Deh symmetry by rotation resolved ZEKE-photoelec-tron spectroscopy (Zero Tinetic Energy-PES).
