Hydrazine expl compns

CA 62, 395(1965) [A castable expl compn provided by curing a mixture contg 50—80% powdered hydrazine nitrate, 13—40% binder (such as a polyester of mol wt 500—5000 derived from polyhydric ales and polybasic acids), and 3—10% curing agent (such as a diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A or.F), powd metals (such as Mg, Al, Ti, etc) 5—15%, and minor propns... 

By far the best efforts to measure product compns were made by Orncllas co-workers (Refs 3, 4 6) who made accurate calorimetry and compn measurements on highly confined and unconfined expl samples. The expls he studied were PETN, HMX, NM, TNT, Bis(2,2-dinitro-2-fluoroethyl)formal (FEFO), l,2-Bis(difluoro-amino) propane (1,2 DP), Benzotrifuroxan (BTF), LX-11-0 (80.1/19.9 HMX/Viton), XTX-8003 (80/20 PETN/Sylgard 182), and three Hydrazine Nitrate (HN) mixts. Of course, most of these measured compns are not CJ products, but reequilibrated mixts of CJ products at some frozen equilibrium temp Tfr < TCJ... 

N 27.30% yel solid was prepd by treating 2 mols of 2,2,2-trin itroethanol with 1 mol hydrazine hydrate in aq soln (Ref 2). This compd may be. suitable as an ingredient of expl or proplnt compns... 

Cobalt(ll)hydrazine Perchlorote, Co(C104)2.3-N2H4( ) col crysts (from ale), hydrolyze in air turning pink mp - expl ca 215°. Can be prepd by treating, in ale soln, Co(Cl04)2 with N2H4.H20. Only a small quantity of complex should be prepd at a time, because it is very sensitive to impact or friction. Was patented by Friederich for use in initiating compns... 

Semicarbazide (Aminourea, Carbamylhydrazine or Hydrazine carboxamide). NHi.NH.CO.NHj mw 75.07 colorl prisms mp 96° d l,484g/cc at 4°. V sol in w sol in ethanol. Prepn is by electrolytic redn of nitrourea in sulfuric acid. The base Is then obtd by reaction of the semicarbazide sulfate with liq ammonia. CA Registry No [57-56-7]. Thermal Decomposition. Betw 80 140° a reversible deamination occurs with the loss of 4 moles of ammonia, and betw 240 280° an irreversible exothermic reaction occurs resulting finally in an expln at ca 280°. A residue of Ni oxide contg some chloride is left (Ref 17) Hydrazine Complex.
