Hydraulic fracturing advantages

The formation of calcium carbonate (CaCOs), calcium sulfate, and barium sulfate scales in brine may create problems with permeability. Therefore it is advantageous that newly made fractures have a scale inhibitor in place in the fracture to help prevent the formation of scale. Formulations of hydraulic fracturing fluids containing a scale inhibitor have been described in the literature [1828]. [Pg.264]

In summary, borates have recently undergone a renaissance in terms of their use in cross-linked gels for hydraulic fracturing operations. They remain the cross-linker of choice in the industry. Many laboratories continue to work on the further refinement of borate-based products and technology for use in this application, recognizing the fundamental advantages of borates. [Pg.433]
