Commercially available hyperbranched polymer, a poly(ester-amide) is currently being marketed by DSM under the product name Hybrane [13] (Figure 8.2). It is also a hydroxyl-functionalized product, but contains both amide and ester linkages. The synthesis is accomplished in two steps cyclic anhydrides are reacted with diisopropanolamine to give an amide-intermediate, possessing two hydroxyl groups and one carboxylic acid. Commercially available hyperbranched polymers possess in some cases lowmolecn-lar weights and are nsnaUy less defined with broad molecnlar weight distribntions. Examples are poly(ethylene imine) (BASF), Boltorn polyesters (Perstorp), polyglycerol (Hyperpolymers) and Hybrane polyesteramides (DSM)... 

A large variety of hyperbranched polymers with acrylate, vinyl ether, allyl ether, or epoxy functions were studied as multifunctional cross-linkers in coatings and in thermosets, using thermal as well as UV curing methods Clearly, polyesters are most prominent in the field, with the Perstorp Boltom products leading in technical studies. The commercialized poly(esteramide)s from DSM, sold under the trade name Hybrane polyethylenimines from BASF AG, available under the trade name TupasoF and poly(urethane)s (PUs) and polyesters developed by BASF are examples for hyperbranched polymers suited for coatings and resin products.
