Humulene cinnamon

Kaul et al. (2003) analysed essential oil profiles of various parts of cinnamon. The oil yields of different plant parts were 0.40% in tender twigs 0.36% in the pedicels of buds and flowers 0.04% in buds and flowers 0.33% in the pedicels of fruits and 0.32% in fruits. The tender twig oil was richer in a-phellandrene (3.4%), limonene (1.6%) and (E)-cinnamaldehyde (4%). The volatile oils from pedicels were richer in (EJ-cinnamyl acetate (58.1-64.5%), -caryophyllene (9.6-11.1%) and neryl acetate (1.4—2.0%). Higher amounts of (Z)-cinnamyl acetate (6.1%), a-humulene (2.2%),... [Pg.126]

C. verum cinnamon bark oil contains as its major component cinnamic aldehyde (usually 60-80%) other major constituents include sesquiterpenoids (4-5%) (e.g., a-humulene and P-caryophyllene that make up 3-4% of the total, limonene, and others), eugenol, eu-genol acetate, cinnamyl acetate, cinnamyl alcohol, methyl eugenol, benzaldehyde, cu-minaldehyde, benzyl benzoate, monoterpenes (e.g., linalool, pinene, phellandrene, and cym-ene), carophyllene, safrole, and others (list AND horhammer MASADA RAVINDRAN). °... [Pg.197]

C. verum leaf oil contains high concentrations of eugenol (Ceylon type 80-88% Seychelles type 87-96%) it also contains many of the major constituents present in cinnamon bark oil (e.g., benzyl benzoate (6%), cinnamaldehyde, cinnamyl acetate, eugenol acetate, benzaldehyde, linalool, a-ter-pinene, and others), as well as other minor compounds, including a-humulene, 3-caryo-phyllene, a-ylangene, methyl cinnamate, and cinnamyl acetate (masada ravindran). °... [Pg.197]

The remaining possible cyclization modes of FPP give rise to the ds-germacryl (10-membered), and the humulyl and ds-humulyl (11-membered), cations as shown in Figure 3.29. a-Humulene 90 is found in the oil of hops Humulus lupulus) and occms as a minor component of many essential oils. fl-Caryophyllene (91) is a humulyl derivative present in clove and cinnamon oil. The ds-germacryl cation is the precmsor of... [Pg.81]
