Humanized monoclonal antibodies Xolair

Omalizumab (Xolair) is the first biological drug approved for the treatment of asthma. Omalizumab is a recombinant humanized monoclonal antibody targeted against IgE. IgE bound to omalizumab cannot bind to IgE receptors on mast cells and basophils, thereby preventing the allergic reaction at a very early step in the process. [Pg.514]

Omalizumab is a DNA-derived humanized monoclonal antibody of the IgGlK subclass. It has a molecular weight of approximately 149,000 kDa. The antibody is produced in Chinese hamster ovary cells in cell culture. It is sold as a preservative-free powder. A vial of Xolair contains 202 mg omalizumab, as well as sucrose, L-histidine, and polysorbate 20. [Pg.514]
