Another of Crowfoot s descendants, Judith Howard, ciystal-lographer at the University of Durham, has speculated that "... one of the reasons why women continue to be attracted to crystallography is because so many early women crystallographers were so good. 110 She added that in 1995 about one third of the British Crystallographic Association s 800 members were women. [Pg.372]

We are grateful to EPSRC (M.A.F.) and BNFL (T.G.H.) for financial support and thank Prof. Judith A. K. Howard, Dr Andrei S. Batsanov, Dr Royston C. B. Copley, Angus Mackinnon and Ivan S. Neretin for the crystal structures obtained in this study. [Pg.227]

The authors are pleased to acknowledge the contributions made by our coworkers, who include Pauline Eva, Aileen Martin, Mark Fox, and our crystallographic collaborators Prof. Judith Howard and Dr. Andrei Batsanov and Dr. Andres Goeta. EPSRC and Kvaerner Process Technology have supported this work. [Pg.320]

We are much indebted to the Royal Society of Chemistry for a Kapitza Fellowship (for S.S.B.) which allowed the work on this book to begin, and to Prof. Judith A. K. Howard of Durham University (U.K.), without whose help and encouragement it would not have been completed. We thank also Prof. Kenneth Wade of Durham University, Prof. Dipankar Datta of Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, Prof. PekkaPyykko of University of Helsinki, Prof. Laslo von Szentpdly of Stuttgart University for helpful comments. Last but not least, we thank our family for constant and patient support during the work on this book. [Pg.547]
