Homoleptic ferrocenyl derivatives of the elements

The system of the homoleptic ( binary ) element-ferrocenyl compounds is more limited than that of the corresponding element-phenyl compounds. Whereas stable homoleptic a-phenyl derivatives of almost all main group elements (Groups 1, 2 and 13 — 17) have been characterized, the corresponding Periodic Table of the main [Pg.236]

On the basis of an X-ray structure analysis [110], cyclic voltammetry [110] and MoBbauer data [111], BFC4 is best described as a zwitterion containing one cationic ferrocenyl substituent and a negative charge at boron [110]. [Pg.237]

All elements of Group 15 except arsenic can be found as the central atom in triferrocenyl complexes. Triferrocenyl amine, NFC3, was synthesized starting from [Pg.237]

Neither diferrocenyl ether ( Fc-O-Fc ) nor diferrocenyl peroxide ( Fc-OO-Fc ) are known so far. However, the corresponding compounds of sulfur, selenium and tellurium are well characterized (see Sect. 5.8). The dichalcogenides Fc-EE-Fc (E = S, Se, Te) are easily obtained by oxidative dimerisation of either the lithium ferrocenyl chalcogenate, Fc-ELi, or the chalcogenols, Fc-EH, for which they can be used as stable precursors (Sect. 5.3.3) [91, 95]. Reaction of the dichalcogenides Fc-EE-Fc with Fc-Li is a possible route to the monochalcogenides, Fc-E-Fc, but the yields are [Pg.238]

The oldest [10] and most extensively studied diferrocenyl metal compound is the orange mercury derivative, HgFc2 (Fig. 5-7), which is obtained readily from chloromercuriferrocene , Fc-HgCl, with various reductive agents such as, for example, aq. Na2S203 solution [10,156], Na dispersion in nonane/benzene, Nal in ethanol or SnCl2 2 H2O in aq. NaOH [12], [RefCO) ] in THF solution [157], and cystein in DMF/H2O at pH 7 [158], [Pg.239]

While the majority of all ferrocene derivatives described so far [1, 2] contain the sandwich unit in an organic environment, i.e., attached to carbon, nearly all elements of the Periodic Table (except the rare gases) are apparently able to bind directly to the cyclopentadienyl rings of ferrocene. In particular, homoleptic ferrocenyl compounds of almost all non-metal elements are known (Table 5-1), two remarkable missing links being OFcj and ASFC3 . Furthermore, the number of homoleptic... [Pg.267]
