Homogeneous photolysis

A control experiment established that LiClOi, has no effect on the homogeneous photolysis of the lithium salt of 2. At conversions of anion greater that 20%, the efficiency of dimer formation decreases. Whether this can be attributed to further oxidation of the anion derived from dimer or to cathodic cleavage of dimer is under investigation. [Pg.342]

Photolyses of the solid cyclodextrin complexes 1 were carried out with a Hano-via 450-W medium-pressure Hg lamp for 3 h at room temperature in a quartz vessel under vacuum. The photolysis vessel was tumbled continuously during the irradiation to ensure homogeneous photolysis of the sample. Conversions were limited to less than 20%. After photolysis, the solid complexes were dissolved in excess water and extracted with diethyl ether and chromatographed with hexane-ethyl acetate (5 1) to isolate the products in pure form. The vivid interest in hydrazine as a powerful propellant has stimulated many investigations both of its thermal decomposition and of its oxidation. Although hydrazine decomposes much more readily than ammonia, the study of its homogeneous decomposition by classical means using a static system is complicated considerably by wall catalysis.
