Following up on the demonstration of a beneficial effect of histamine H, antagonist on neurological function in an experimental animal model of HE (Lozeva et al., 2000) results of a controlled chnical trial revealed improvements in sleep quality in cirrhotic patients with minimal HE following administration of the H, blocker hydroxyzine (Spahr et al., 2007).
