The polynuclear carbonylferrates and their structure determinations by L. F. Dahl have been dealt with in some detail in my lecture The Chemistry of Metal Carbonyls The Life Work of Walter Hieber given at the Symposium on Metal Carbonyls in 1974 in Ettal 102). [Pg.21]

Goldschmidt was first nominated for a Nobel Prize in chemistry in 1928. The nominator was Brogger, his old teacher, who praised Goldschmidt s fundamental contributions to geochemistry and crystal chemistry, and in particular emphasized his work on the rare earth elements. [61] The following year he was nominated by Walter Hieber, a Gottingen chemist, and in 1931 by Edwin Blanclc, Alfred Cohen,... [Pg.171]

Habilitation thesis already at the end of 1954. He became a Privatdozent at the TH in Miinchen in 1955, received an invitation to be Associate Professor at the LMU Miinchen in 1957, was promoted to Professor at the same university in 1959, and succeeded Walter Hieber to the Chair of Inorganic Chemistry at the TH in October 1964. He remained in this position until his retirement in summer 1984. [Pg.66]

Walter Hieber s lifelong endeavor to explore the chemistry of metal carbonyls as completely as possible is best illustrated by the synthesis of Tc2(CO)10 from Tc207 and CO at elevated pressure and temperature, for which specially... [Pg.93]

In the last three decades of the twentieth century, following Walter Hieber s retirement, four aspects of the research on mono- and polynuclear metal carbonyl complexes found particular attention. These were the preparation of highly reduced carbonyl metallate anions, the generation of stable metal carbonyl cations, the matrix isolation of uncharged metal carbonyls obeying or not the 18-electron rule and, last but not least, the giant metal carbonyl clusters. [Pg.98]

Following a short stay as the acting Head of the Institute of Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry at the Technische Hochschule Stuttgart, Walter Hieber (Fig. 4.14) took the Chair of Inorganic Chemistry at the Technische Hochschule in Miinchen in 1935 at the age of 39. With the fate of his father... [Pg.114]
