Valves of 6-inch and smaller sizes operating at service temperatures of 150°F and lower are usually lubricated plug valves. Their principal advantage is that no stem packing is required. 

If a tight shut-off is necessary for maintenance and repair, double-block valves are used. A bleed valve is installed between the block valve to break down the pressure and for leakage detection.
