Block copolymers with PS and a polymethacrylate block carrying a liquid crystalline group, PS-b-poly 6-[4-(cyanophenylazo)phenoxy]hexyl methacrylate, were successfully prepared in quantitative yields and with relatively narrow molecular weight distributions (Scheme 5) [18].
