The final series of five procedures presents optimized preparations of a variety of useful organic compounds. The first procedure in this group describes the preparation of 3-BROMO-2(H)-PYRAN-2-ONE, a heterodiene useful for (4+2] cycloaddition reactions. An optimized large scale preparation of 1,3,5-CYCLOOCTATRIENE, another diene useful for [4+2] cycloaddition, is detailed from the readily available 1,5-cyclooctadiene. Previously, the availability of this material has depended on the commercial availability of cyclooctatetraene at reasonable cost. A simple large scale procedure for the preparation of 3-PYRROLINE is then presented via initial alkylation of hexamethylenetetramine with (Z)-1,4-dichloro-2-butene. This material serves as an intermediate for the preparation of 2,5-disubstituted pyrroles and pyrrolidines via heteroatom-directed metalation and alkylation of suitable derivatives. The preparation of extremely acid- and base-sensitive materials by use of the retro Diels-Alder reaction is illustrated in the preparation of 2-CYCLOHEXENE-1.4-DIONE, a useful reactive dienophile and substrate for photochemical [2+2] cycloadditions. Functionalized ferrocene derivatives... [Pg.297]

The synthesis of titanium silicates by basic and acidic hydrolysis in an organic-water media were carried out at 80-150 C in an autoclave with stirring (150-200 rpm) at autogenic pressure (2.5-4.5 at.). As silicon sources tetraethoxysilane and silicic acid have been used. As metal sources the metal-organic compounds alcoholates, stearates, acetylacetonates, acetates or mineral salts have been used. Hexamethylenetetramine, N,N-dimethylocteIamine, monoethanolamine were used as the structure-directing agents. [Pg.403]

The crosslinking reaction rate may be too slow for some commercial processes and the reaction may exceed the oxidation resistance time for the elastomer compound. In such cases, curing accelerators are used with the sulfur-curing process. Zinc oxide is a commonly used accelerator, however thioureas, hexamethylenetetramine, and others are effective. For organic peroxides, the cure rate can be greatly increased with an increase in applied temperature, though oxides of zinc,... [Pg.6]

Even relatively complex molecules may be packed together to give simple structures if they are themselves highly symmetrical in form. The structure of hexamethylenetetramine, C6H12N4, is an example of this and is also of historic interest as the first organic structure to be completely determined by X-ray analysis. The molecule of this compound has the symmetrical configuration shown in fig. 14.02a> with six... [Pg.358]

Phenolic novolak resins and high styrene SBR resins are used for reinforcing and increasing the hardness and modulus of rubber compounds. Resorcinol novolak resins are used as a part of the adhesion system between rubber and brass plated steel cord or organic fibers. Both phenolic novolak and resorcinol novolak resins require the addition of a methylene donor such as hexamethoxymethylmelamine (HMMM) or hexamethylenetetramine (HMTA) to fully crosslink and become a thermoset. Phenol, alkyl phenols, and resorcinol can be reacted in bulk or in a polymeric formulation with methylene donors. Typical donors are 2-nitro-2methylpropanol (NMP), HMTA, and HMMM, used to produce a thermoset resin network in the... [Pg.194]
