Hernovine

In the Philippines, the sap expressed from the stem is drunk to alleviate headache. Using antiplatelet aggregation as a guide to fractionation, Chen et al. isolated a series of aporphines including actinodaphnine, N-methylactinodaphnine, launobine, dicentrine, O-methylbulbocapnine, hernovine, bulbocapnine, and oxoaporphines dicentrinone and liriodenine were isolated from the stems of I. luzonensis (13). 

The two methoxyls in hernovine are assumed to be at positions 1 and 11 of the aporphine system, since they appear in the NMR-spectrum of N-methylhernovine at relatively high fields (6.57 and 6.50 t) 33b). 

Hernandia catalpijolia has yielded the new base catalpifoline (XC) whose structure was proven by its identity with the diazomethane alkylation product of hernovine (LXXXVIII). The molecular formula of catalpifoline is C20H23NO4. The melting point is 174° —175°, with [a]u 4-220° in ethanol 33b). 

Five phenolic aporphines were isolated wilsonirine, C19H21O4N (mp 211°-214°) gave a neutral diacetate (mp 229° [a] f +56°) and on N-methylation it gave a base (mp 188°) shown to be identical with 0-methyl-isoboldine, so that wilsonirine is XLIII hernovine JV-methylhemovine,...
