Hereditary breast-ovarian cancer syndrome

Hereditary breast-ovarian cancer syndrome (HBOC) accounts for the vast majority (85%-90%) of all hereditary ovarian cancers [5]. The site-specific ovarian cancer syndrome with only ovarian cancer accounts for 10%-15% of hereditary ovarian cancers. The hereditary breast/ovarian cancer syndrome, and perhaps less frequently the site-specific ovarian cancer syndrome, are linked to mutations in the BRCAl and BRCA2 genes [4]. The vast majority of Bl CAl-associated cancers are serous adenocarcinomas and present at an average age at diagnosis of 48 years. BJ CAl-associated cancers may have a longer median survival than sporadic ovarian cancer [4].
